Public Health Nursing

Public Health Nursing is a nursing specialty focused on public health. Public health nursing is the science and practice of promoting and protecting the health of populations using knowledge from nursing, social, and public health sciences. Public health nursing practice focuses on population health, with the goal of promoting health, and preventing disease and disability. Public Health Nurses comprise the largest segment of the professional public health workforce and serve in many different critical roles. Public Health Nurses work with the multidisciplinary team involved in provision of care to neurologically ill. Their clinical knowledge and unique relationships to those they serve assist in designing and implementing programs and policies to meet the needs of vulnerable populations. Public health nurses integrate community involvement and knowledge about the entire population with personal, clinical understandings of the health and illness experiences of individuals and families within the population and at the health facility levels respectively. Public health nurses work within communities and focus on different areas to improve the overall health of the people within that community. They often incorporate some form of health coaching, as well as home care visits for welfare and to provide care to their certain patients post discharged because of debilitating chronic diseases.
